4th Sunday in Lent- Laetare

March 22, 2020
This order of service is based on Matins which you can follow along with on page 219 if you happen to have a hymnal available.  Otherwise, please work through the different elements of the service one after the other.  I will have full details on how we will go about administering communion this next weekend available on Wednesday morning.  Please keep an eye on the website for that announcement.  -Pastor Gray

 Opening Hymn: The Lord's My Shepherd I'll Not Want
LSB #710

 O Lord, open Thou my lips.
And my mouth shall show forth Thy praise.
Make haste, O God, to deliver me.
Make hast to help me, O Lord.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost:
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Alleluia.

Venite

Read Psalm 132:8-18

[8] Arise, O LORD, and go to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
[9] Let your priests be clothed with righteousness,
and let your saints shout for joy.
[10] For the sake of your servant David,
do not turn away the face of your anointed one.
[11] The LORD swore to David a sure oath
from which he will not turn back:
“One of the sons of your body
I will set on your throne.
[12] If your sons keep my covenant
and my testimonies that I shall teach them,
their sons also forever
shall sit on your throne.”
[13] For the LORD has chosen Zion;
he has desired it for his dwelling place:
[14] “This is my resting place forever;
here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
[15] I will abundantly bless her provisions;
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
[16] Her priests I will clothe with salvation,
and her saints will shout for joy.
[17] There I will make a horn to sprout for David;
I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.
[18] His enemies I will clothe with shame,
but on him his crown will shine.” (ESV)

Sermon

The Kyrie

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

The Lord’s Prayer.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Collect of the Day
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, Your mercies are new every morning; and though we deserve only punishment, You receive us as Your children and provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant that we may heartily acknowledge Your merciful goodness, give thanks for all Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Additional Prayers
The Collect for Peace.

O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, You have safely brought us to the beginning of this day.  Defend us with your might power and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger, but that all our doings being ordered by Your governance may be righteous in Your sight; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
℟: Amen.

The Benedicamus.
Bless we the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

The Benediction.
The grace of the Lord ✠ Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with us all.
℟: Amen.
